Cross country skiing is a big thing for some Utica, NY natives. Just north of the city is a place called the BREIA Trails. It’s privately owned and maintained but free to all nature lovers, cross country skiers and snowshoers.
Having something to keep you busy in the Winter is important in “Central NY”. When the cold comes and it gets dark so early you need to have some way to help keep you sane.

BREIA is great. They have two parking areas, a warming hut and handy maps that you can grab at the trail head so you don’t get lost. It’s perfect for an outdoor family activity. We always pack a lunch and meet other like-minded people in the warming hut.
It’s just another great thing you can do when you are in “Utica, NY”.
