I recently went on a tour through the Meyda Lighting factory and I was amazed with all the different things they do right here behind the curtains right here in my hometown. Watching the process was very interesting. Seeing people bend glass, wrap glass and then solder hundreds of little pieces together to make a functional piece of art was intense.

But what blew my mind even more was the end products. Sure I saw a lot going on during the factory tour, but the showroom is full of all the products they make. There are so many unique lights, lamps, chandeliers and stained glass window hangings. It’s almost to se in one visit. I spent hours walking around looking at the pretty lights and thinking to myself how much I wanted each one I passed.

I ended up going home and getting my wife. I wanted to show her all the lamps and help me pick out the perfect one for our house. We ended up getting a dragonfly table lamp that was full of color and tied our living room together.

Now when we have dinner guests they always notice it and ask us about it. They ask us where we got it. And they are always in disbelief when I tell them it was made right here.

So many people say that they don’t ever see anything good coming out of Utica, NY. I always tell them that they must be blind not to see all of the great things. Our city is made up of people who genuinely care. It’s close to the Adirondack Park, and has a full four seasons with different activities or possibilities for each one. If you feel different I suggest maybe you slow your roll and take some time to see all the beautiful things around you in Central NY, and learn to appreciate them.
